History and Production Chain of SIO

Brief History of Sacha Inchi
  • Sacha Inchi is a vine plant belonging to the genus Plukenetia, family Euphorbiaceae, species Linneo Volubilis. It originated in the Amazon rainforest of Peru, where it was discovered more than 3,000  years ago. It grows in tropical humid areas with temperatures of 10-36oC and pH levels between 5-7. It grows at elevations of 100-200 meters above sea level, can spread its vines up to 5o meters, and has a lifespan of up to 5o years.
  • Sacha Inchi was introduced and began yielding products in Cambodia on February 11, 2015, through the Suosdei Cambodia Association, which implemented contract-based agricultural production with Cambodian farmers,
  • High Quality : Sacha Inchi cultivated in Mondulkiri Province requires low investment, yields high quantities, carries low risk, produces good-quality seeds, and yields high-quality oil when pressed.
Production Chain of Sacha Inchi
  • Suosdei Cambodia Association has engaged in contract-based production with farmers in Mondulkiri Province since 2015. The reason for choosing that province is because the quality of Sacha Inchi crops there is ranked number one. Farmers require low initial investment , obtain high yields, find it easy to maintain the crops, and face low risks.
  • Cultivation is don in a completely organic and natural way, without using any chemical fertilizers or pesticides, allowing the plants to grow naturally 100%
  • Harvesting is done by picking only the fruits with good weight and selecting only those of high quality.
  • The most important product that the association is currently  producing is the pressing of seeds at the Suosdei Handicraft Cooperative, located in O Suosdei Village, Baray Commune, Baray District, Kampong Thom Province.
  • The process of pressing oil involves first sun-drying the fruits for about 1 to 2 hours, then placing them into the machine to separate the seeds from the shells, washing the seeds with clean water, and then drying them to eliminate germs. The seeds are then prepared for oil extraction.
  • The oil pressing machine, equipment, and are pressing area are sterilized before beginning the oil extraction process. In pressing, no heating machine is used in order to preserve the quality of the oil.
  • The oil refined to be clean, sterilized, the poured into glass bottles, and stored in a place with a cool temperature between 16 to 25 degrees Celsius.
  • During transportation to customers, it is also kept away from direct sunlight.
